So what happened between the dev and publisher? Is it just because the publisher released the game without the dev's permission? Originally posted by aquatorrent:Thats not explaining anything though. What he did to the Steam page will not help his case in court though. They might not have the time and money to fight over it in court and in the chance that they lose it could cause the whole company to go bankrupt.īringing this all back to the games forum we're actually on, I think legal avenues are far less risky for Conrad to pursue. I kind of agree that them going out and releasing their own build of the game on Steam six months later wasn't the right call but from their perspective Frogware has a whole dev studio of people they need to support. It's supposed to subsidize the loss of sales, that doesn't help the devs though when the pub pockets the whole subsidization. Everyone knows games make less sales on Epic Game Store, this is why Epic has to bribe companies to release with them in the first place. Nacon basically got free money from Epic while Frogware got screwed on the loss of sales for the PC version. Scar Jo lost out on a lot of money and Disney made a bunch of subscriptions. It's similar to the Scarlett Johansson thing where Disney promised her a portion of her paycheck would come from box office sales but then they did a simul release with Disney+ which hurt box office sales. Nacon was withholding funds and they also did exclusivity deals that Frogware did not agree to and I believe didn't even receive a cut of. If you can't reach a mutually agreeable resolution, you go to court - end of story. If you have a dispute with a company you've signed a contract with, you negotiate with them in private. Yep, just like the Frogwares Sinking City situation, the publisher appears to be completely in the right legally and ethically, and the developer just doesn't want to abide by a contract they signed and so goes running to the gaming public to unprofessionally distort the situation and try to build up unwarranted public backing for their unethical, unprofessional behavior. They just want him to actually abide by the contract he signed. The publisher isn’t even fining him for his tantrum. PCGamer updated their article at the bottom.
